More about OCDL
Oxton and Channelkirk is a small rural community comprising 165 homes in the Scottish Borders with limited access to public transport. Having suffered the loss of two key community resources – the local pub and the local shop/Post Office, the community took action and formed Oxton Community Development Limited. Established as a social enterprise in 2017 we have 122 shareholders from the community and beyond. Our current Management Committee members are:
- Jim Tough, Chairman
- Lindsay Montgomery, Vice Chairman
- Bernadette Gieffer , Secretary
- Julia Duffield, Treasurer
- Sarah Yaxley
- Anne Ritchie
- Chris Sloan
- John Duffield
- Melanie Lawrie
Elections happen at our AGM usually in August each year.
The shop is now well established, a success story in a new home as part of the developments at Oxton War Memorial Hall. But OCDL has interests beyond the shop. We were designed to be able to act as positive force for community development where there is need and opportunity. Our most recent initiative in that regard is Oxstock, being taken forward by a sub committee to offer accessible high quality cultural experiences for local people.
